If you are interested in pursuing a career in nursing, gaining practical experience is essential to kickstart your journey. Our nursing Internship program in Nepal offers a unique opportunity to take you behind the scenes of a real hospital in Nepal, allowing you to truly understand what it means to work on the front line of healthcare delivery. Throughout the internship program, you will have the chance to shadow nursing staff and witness firsthand the daily responsibilities and challenges faced by nurses. During your internship, you will have the opportunity to encounter various preventable diseases and illnesses, many of which are caused by malnutrition. You may be assigned to different departments such as general health services, orthopedics, ophthalmology, dental services, ENT, x-ray, ultrasound, and neurology. There are several hospitals and centers where you can be placed for your internship. You may choose to intern at a facility specializing in trauma, orthopedics, or rehabilitation. Alternatively, you could be based at a renowned center that focuses on enhancing the functional mobility of physically disabled children. These opportunities are available in hospitals and medical centers located in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Banepa, Bhaktapur, and Chitwan. By observing local nurses, you will gain exposure to a wide range of conditions and diseases that you may not typically encounter in your home country.
The local nurses in Nepal primarily focus on providing direct treatment to patients. As a nursing intern, you will have the opportunity to shadow these nurses and observe their methods, which may differ significantly from what you are accustomed to. In Nepal, much of the basic patient care is typically managed by the patient's families. You may also participate in community outreach projects organized by the hospital where you are interning. These projects are usually conducted on a monthly or bi-monthly basis, with the exception of the rainy season from June to September. During these outreach initiatives, free health check-ups are offered, and basic medications are distributed to suburban or remote communities. Nursing interns may even have the chance to visit local schools to conduct health and hygiene classes.
If you have a specific area of nursing that you are interested in specializing in, please inform us during your application process. Volunteer Society Nepal (VSN) will assist in matching you with a placement that aligns with your preferences.
